The Hit List: Target Defendants In The Shooting Gallery

Everyone is a potential lawsuit target. But there are people who are more attractive targets, those walking around town with a flashing neon sign that says, “Please hit me, I have the money!” Predators have the habit of including all possible responsible parties in their hit list of potential targets. This pernicious practice multiplies the odds that one of the named defendants could be you, a party against whom a judgment could be enforced.
It is only a matter of time. In this dog-eat-dog world, anyone can be sued for any reason. But some are more inclined to be the target of a lawsuit than others. People engaged in business, landowners and professionals are exposed to lawsuits more than others. Lawyers always worry about collecting the judgment, They look forward to a huge fee once the case is resolved if they are working on a contingency fee arrangement. Many of them wish to separate you from your possessions. There is a large pool of litigation targets. Some people may not be physically attractive but are considered legally attractive to plaintiffs and lawyers who are scouring the earth to pin down a deep pocket defendant or at least set him up for a nifty settlement. Once you have been chosen to be a defendant in a lawsuit, you will be compelled to shell out money to defend yourself. Lawyers are not known to defend people on a contingency fee basis. A substantial acceptance fee and a monthly retainer fee will be required in many cases.

These professions include legal service and health care providers, food establishments, building contractors, engineers, architects, water treatment operators, security agencies, and businesses involving hazardous activities and materials.
The risks are more serious and abundant than you think. You may even be held liable for the wrongdoing of another person. This may happen to you if you are the registered owner of a vehicle and the driver of your vehicle hits a pedestrian with your permission, causing severe injuries. Or you may be held liable for acts of others as an associate,
